Supporting Resources

  • Create 4 beat rhythm strips using icons for each syllable. Model how to read the patterns, then invite students to join you.  Transfer to classroom instruments. Create a combination of patterns by displaying 2 or 4 cards side by side and perform.  Rearrange to create variety of patterns.
  • What is Melody? Engaging Students, Exploring Sounds, Extending Learning - Your Classical Class Notes Lesson plan where students learn about melody by distinguishing it from beat or rhythm and explore melodic contour by vocalizing and drawing their own melodic shapes.
